When I was a child, I was an outsider. I moved with my parents from a small county town to a big city. So loneliness became a label that kept sticking to me—something I couldn’t shake off.

In an unfamiliar place, a friend is the whole world. Every time the get-together ended, everyone went home—except me. I only managed to walk back after all my friends had left, alone, painfully alone. Other than my friend, I had nothing. That loneliness stayed close, not letting go—right up until after I got married. Only then, without realizing when it happened, I suddenly noticed that the loneliness seemed to have been gone for a long time. That’s how the past is: the days that have passed can’t be returned to.

In elementary school, I had a friend I was with every day. Right now—at this very moment—I miss the days we spent together more than ever. Ever since we parted, my life has never again had the bright, shining sun it used to. Each time I think about the years we shared, I feel a sharp, twisting ache in my chest. And yet I still don’t have the courage to go see him—because once time has passed, it can’t be turned back.

One person… really—it’s because of the one who sings. That’s what brings him back to my mind.
